Agreeing to these terms

Twinklenook is operated by Viacheslav Chekanovskyi, acting as an individual. By creating an account or using the service you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the service.

When you sign up, you accept these terms and the Privacy Policy by ticking the box on the registration form or by continuing with Google, and we keep a record of when you did so.

Who may use the service

The account holder must be an adult, and must be the parent or legal guardian of every child whose profile is created on the account, or must be authorized by that parent or guardian.

Children use the service only through a profile created for them by the account holder. A child cannot register, cannot open the parent area without the parent PIN, and cannot change their own settings.

You are responsible for the accuracy of what you enter about your child, and for supervising your child's use of the service as you see fit.

Your account

Keep your password and your parent PIN to yourself. You are responsible for activity that happens under your account. Tell us promptly if you believe someone else has gained access to it.

One person may hold one account. Do not share an account with people outside your household.

What the service does

Twinklenook helps a parent shape what their child sees on YouTube. You set an age rating, a language, the topic categories that are switched on, your own collections, blocked channels, videos and words, and screen-time limits. We use that to select videos and present them in a child-friendly interface.

Videos are played exclusively in the official embedded YouTube player. We do not host, store, download or alter any video.

YouTube

The service uses YouTube API Services. By using it, you also agree to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service, and Google's handling of data through the embedded player is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.

All videos, thumbnails, titles and channel names belong to their creators or to YouTube. Nothing in these terms gives you any right in that content beyond watching it in the embedded player.

Advertising shown inside the YouTube player is placed by YouTube. We do not control it, and we do not block, replace or interfere with it.

Filtering is a best effort, not a guarantee

We combine age ratings, language preferences, keyword and channel blocks, and automatic filters to keep unsuitable material away from your child. This works well, but it cannot be perfect: the catalogue is enormous, it changes constantly, and metadata is sometimes wrong or misleading.

You should treat the service as a strong filter, not as a guarantee. We recommend that you review your child's watch history from time to time, and we give you the tools to block anything you do not want. If something unsuitable reaches your child, please tell us so we can block it for everyone.

Acceptable use

  • Do not use the service to break the law, or to infringe anyone's rights.
  • Do not attempt to access another person's account, profiles or data.
  • Do not scrape, resell or redistribute content or data obtained through the service.
  • Do not attempt to disable, overload, probe or reverse engineer the service, and do not use automated tools against it.
  • Do not circumvent the parent PIN, the screen-time limits or the content filters.

Price

The service is currently free. We take no payment and hold no payment details. If we introduce paid features or voluntary donations in future, we will say so clearly before you are asked for anything, and using them will always be your choice.

Availability and changes

We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the service. We may also have to change how the service works when YouTube changes its API, its policies or its terms. Where a change materially affects you, we will give notice in the app.

We do not promise uninterrupted or error-free operation.

Ending your use

You may stop using the service at any time and delete your account from Settings in the parent area. Deletion removes your account, your child profiles and the data associated with them, as described in the Privacy Policy.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, that is used to harm another person, or where we are required to do so by law.

Disclaimers and liability

The service is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind to the fullest extent the law allows. We are not responsible for the content YouTube serves, nor for a video that reaches your child despite the filters.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential loss. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms we will update the effective date at the top of this page, and we will give notice in the app before a material change takes effect. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new terms.
